4 easy spring makeup updates

Dare we say that spring might soon be making an appearance…? The nights are getting lighter, that chill in the air seems to be easing off, and the first daffodils are beginning to come into bloom. It’s time to give our makeup bags a little spring clean.

#1 Think Pink

Seen at: Altuzarra, Derek Lam, Versace

For an unashamedly feminine, flirtatious and youthful look, think pink. A subtle ballerina-inspired pale pink nail polish is always a chic and understated option - or go for a slick of oh-so-kissable pretty pink lipstick. A gentle flush of a flattering petal-pink blush is always a fail-safe choice.

Burberry SS15 runway palette, £45 / RMS Beauty Lip2cheek in Demure, £28 / Nails Inc Gel Effect Nail Polish in Uptown, £15

#2 I’m With The Band

Seen at: Tom Ford, Versace Couture

Tom Ford always does that glamorous 70s groupie look so well, with slept-in hair and smudged makeup. A great eye pencil is essential for this look - choose one that’s thick and creamy, easy-to-blend and will last all night long. Keep the rest of your skin looking light and fresh for added devil-may-care attitude.

Dior Diorshow Khol in Smoky Black, £19.50 / Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Moonspoon, £14 / Benefit They’re Real! Beyond Mascara, £19.50

#3 Bare Necessities

Seen at: Balmain, Prabal Gurung, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Chloe, Valentino

If the Spring/Summer 2015 catwalks were anything to go by, looking like you’re not wearing any makeup at all has never been more in vogue. Whether you dare to go completely makeup-free like the models at Marc Jacobs or opt for subtle bronzing and contouring, the bare face is in. Choose products that are designed to enhance rather than cover, to keep the look natural and fresh.

Bobbi Brown Face Touch-up Palette, £34 / Tom Ford Lip Color in Nude Vanilla, £37 / Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in Into The Woods, £36

#4 The Scarlet Letter

Seen at: Burberry Prorsum, Missoni, Zac Posen, Topshop Unique, Dolce & Gabbana

Is there anything chicer and more classic than a perfect red lip? We doubt it. This spring, wear a bold, matt red lipstick in a shade that suits your skin tone, whether that’s brick red, orange-red or a more plummy tone. Wear with a flawless, but light and natural, complexion to let the colour pop.

Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer, £12 / Sunday Riley Modern Lip Colour in Ruby Bite, £25 / Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope in Brat Pack, £35
